One year down

When I first moved to Los Angeles last January, it was not love at first sight. Give it a year, everyone said. You'll get used to it.

A year? I fell in love with New York City, my former hometown, on day one. What kind of crazy city needs an entire year to just "get used to?"

The first six months were a scramble of finding a job, a place to live and figuring out how to get from point A to point B, preferably without using the 405. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I left behind. I missed my family, my friends, my city, my comfort zone, my life.

Then Dan and I went to London on vacation. Walking through the streets, seeing the sites, trying new foods, feeling the energy of the people around me, it was the happiest I had been in months.

And it dawned on me: Rather than moping about what I left behind, I could be seeing new sites, discovering new foods and tapping into a completely different energy right in my backyard. I came back feeling very different about this city.

So one year down, am I used to it yet? Not really. But year two, things are looking up.

I'll be honest, it took me almost 6 years. I thought this place was super dumb. Now it's tough for me to consider living anywhere else.

Wow, six years! I have heard up to three years, but six is a new record.

One year already? Unbelievable. Enjoy every minute. We are over here. Still thinking of you and wishing that we were in that golden sunset with you.
